Continuous data protection also known as continuous backup refers to the backup of all company data by automatically saving a copy of every change made to that data. Essentially the backup will capture each version of the data and allows you, the customer, to restore a specified file at any time giving you the security and safety you need.

Solution

The keepITsafe Continuous Data Protection component does not run on a schedule like traditional backups. It is event-based and can provide continuous 24/7 data production, with support for Recovery Point Objectives as low as 1 minute. CDP is designed for remote backup operations with support for automatic re-connection and resumption in the event of a connection failure. CDP removes the data loss vulnerabilities between regularly scheduled backups as the backup window and recovery time objectives are significantly reduced. keepITsafe monitors the specified data source and whenever changes are detected, data is automatically backed up offsite.
To minimize the bandwidth demands for CDP, our service uses network optimization techniques such as data compression and block-level incremental backup. Additionally, backup data sent over the internet from a remote site to keepITsafe's datacentre is protected by encryption AES 256 in flight and at rest.

This solution is always on and simple to install. You can also choose specific files to be continuously backed up. The solution only transmits the modified version of a file instead of the entire file. It can also backup an unlimited number of computers for one company – you can backup your laptop or office PC. As the solution is driven only by software there is no additional hardware required, making the solution hassle free for users.
A very fast connection is not necessarily needed to support CDP. Lower bandwidth connections can support it and the objective is to do the best possible job with the available infrastructure, instead of not doing anything. For example, an administrator may want to capture 1GB of changed data per second. If his connection is not good enough to transmit that changed data successfully, he may be able to transmit changes every 10 or 20 minutes. Bandwidth-throttling is also integrated into the solution.
